Animal Care Technician

Job description

6-month Contract to Hire Fulltime - benefits/paid every Friday

* drug and health screening/background check must be passed to start position *



Shift: 6:30am-3:00pm - 1st shift.



Animal Husbandry Technician (Entry-Level)

  • Overview: Hands-on role involving direct animal care, feeding, and monitoring.
  • Responsibilities:
    • Provide daily husbandry care for laboratory rodents (feeding, cage cleaning, enrichment).
    • Monitor animal health and behavior, reporting concerns to research staff.
    • Maintain clean and sterile environments to ensure proper animal welfare.
    • Utilize forceps to handle small animals for safe and humane interactions.
    • Change up to 120 cages per day (half of the room is cleaned weekly).
    • Perform weekly cleaning tasks (mopping, sanitation).
  • Requirements:
    • Background in animal care or research (vet tech, farm, pet care, or wildlife experience).
    • No fear of handling rodents (mice & rats).
    • Ability to lift 25 lbs (food bags, supplies).
    • High School diploma required.
