Job description

We are a rapidly growing organization in the biomedical research support industry, seeking an Animal Caretaker I to join our team. This is an entry-level position that plays a vital role in ensuring the well-being of research animals. Responsibilities:

  • Provide daily care to animals, including feeding, watering, and monitoring overall health.
  • Perform routine cage changes and maintain a clean and sanitized environment.
  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety guidelines, including biosafety protocols (BSLI/BSLII).
  • Assist with receiving and properly housing animal shipments.
  • Complete and maintain records, such as census sheets, room logs, and inventories.
  • Conduct health surveillance checks and report abnormal conditions to the appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain and sanitize equipment and work areas to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Assist with supply inventory, ordering, and stocking.
  • Perform humane euthanasia as required, adhering to established protocols.
  • Execute other assigned tasks with diligence and attention to detail.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience in animal care, veterinary clinics, or a related field is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., bend, stoop, and stand for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working in personal protective equipment (PPE) for extended durations.
  • Basic computer skills, including familiarity with email and record-keeping systems.
  • Strong attention to detail, dependability, and a commitment to animal welfare.

Schedule:

  • Full-time, 40 hours per week. Flexible start times available, with schedules of Sunday-Thursday or Tuesday-Saturday.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Competitive hourly pay: $24-$27/hour, based on experience.
