Job Title: Specimen Preparation Technician

Start Date: ASAP

Schedule/ Shift Options:

  • Monday-Friday, 7pm-3:30am (rotating Saturdays)
  • Monday-Friday, 7:30pm-4am (rotating Saturdays)
  • Monday-Friday, 8pm-4:30am (rotating Saturdays)

Pay Range: $15.25/hour + 15% shift differential = $17.54/hour (shift differential applied to hours worked between 5pm-6am as long as 2 consecutive hours are worked within this window)

The Specimen Preparation Technician is responsible for the receipt of biological specimens into the department, their proper entry into the company's computer system, the preparation of samples for analytical testing, the distribution of these specimens to the proper analytical area, and archiving specimens after testing.

Responsibilities/ Job Duties (not limited to the following):

  • Enters and verifies patient demographics, location, physician data, tests requested, time and date of collection, appropriate clinical information and all other pertinent data found on requisitions submitted.
    • Verifies accuracy of entered information.
  • Aliquots and labels specimens according to established departmental procedures and practices; delivers specimens to the technical floor in a timely manner.
  • Meets or exceeds department quality performance metrics on all work performed.
  • Complies with all safety rules, and follows defined safety practices.
  • Provides basic technical support for less experienced Specimen Preparation Technicians, answers questions and directs them to appropriate resources.
  • Responsible for maintaining technical competence in all assigned tasks, and verifying competence annually.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Must be able to type 40+ wpm on a standard 1 Minute Typing Test and score above 5,500 kph on an Alpha Numeric Typing Test
  • EXCELLENT ATTENDANCE
  • Ability to work with limited supervision
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
