Coding Lead – Inpatient & Outpatient
Location: Rockland County, NY
Pay: $41–$46/hour
Schedule: Monday–Friday, Day Shift
Employment: 5-Month Contract-to-Hire
Work Model: Onsite Training, Then Hybrid
Medix is hiring a Coding Lead to support the HIM department of a hospital system in Rockland County.
This is a hands-on leadership role supporting both inpatient and outpatient coding. The person in this position will work closely with the Coding Manager, help keep the team organized and on track, support coders with questions and difficult cases, complete audits, and step into coding work when needed.
This is not a role where you move completely away from coding. The team is looking for someone who is comfortable being a senior resource while still getting into the charts and helping with the work itself.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Help coordinate daily inpatient and outpatient coding work and priorities
- Support coders with questions, difficult cases, and coding guidance
- Review productivity, quality, accuracy, and turnaround times
- Complete coding audits and identify documentation or coding issues
- Perform inpatient and outpatient coding when needed
- Review ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, HCPCS, and modifier usage
- Help resolve coding edits, denials, appeals, and reimbursement-related issues
- Monitor coding work queues and help keep accounts within expected turnaround times
- Work with HIM, revenue cycle, physicians, and other departments when coding or documentation issues come up
- Assist with training, coaching, and performance improvement
- Help the Coding Manager with day-to-day department needs and ongoing projects
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of healthcare coding experience
- Experience with both inpatient and outpatient hospital coding
- RHIT or RHIA required
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, HCPCS, and modifiers
- Recent hands-on coding experience
- Experience with coding audits, quality review, compliance, denials, or appeals
- HIM experience
- Previous leadership, lead, senior coder, auditor, or supervisory experience strongly preferred
- CCS, CCS-P, CPC, or similar coding certification preferred
- Epic experience is a plus
The strongest candidates will be people who are already serving as a Senior Coder, Coding Lead, Coding Auditor, or Coding Supervisor and are comfortable balancing leadership responsibilities with hands-on coding.
Schedule & Work Arrangement
The schedule is Monday–Friday during daytime hours.
The position will be onsite for the first 90 days for training and ramp-up. After that, the schedule will move to four days onsite and one day remote per week.
