CT Technologist — Evening Shift

We’re seeking an experienced CT Technologist to join the team at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. This is a great opportunity for a CT professional who thrives in a fast-paced clinical environment and is passionate about patient care, imaging quality, and safety.

What You’ll Do

As a CT Technologist, you’ll perform high-quality diagnostic imaging across a diverse patient population while providing safe, compassionate patient care.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Operate fixed and portable CT scanners to perform routine and advanced imaging procedures.
• Perform CT examinations across all patient populations, including pediatric and trauma patients.
• Perform imaging of the head, neck, chest, cardiac, abdomen, pelvis, and extremities, as well as perfusion studies, vascular CTA, multiplanar reconstructions, and 3D volume renderings.
• Assist radiologists with specialized and interventional procedures, including biopsies, drainages, marker placements, and ablations.
• Perform emergency imaging procedures, including Code Stroke examinations.
• Identify patients, explain procedures, reduce patient anxiety, and ensure proper positioning and preparation.
• Assess contrast compatibility, including kidney function/GFR, allergies, and pregnancy status, and verify required NPO and oral/IV contrast preparation.
• Monitor and prioritize imaging orders based on patient needs, including STAT, urgent, ASAP, ED, and inpatient requests.
• Coordinate closely with radiologists, emergency department staff, inpatient teams, and scheduling personnel to maintain efficient patient flow.
• Recognize acute pathology, critical findings, contrast reactions, and IV infiltrations and promptly escalate concerns to the appropriate clinical team.
• Respond to emergencies and initiate appropriate life-support measures when necessary.
• Document patient arrivals and departures in MHS Genesis and applicable logbooks.
• Review image quality and ensure complete image series are successfully transmitted to PACS for radiologist interpretation.
• Perform daily equipment warmups, calibrations, and ACR quality-control procedures.
• Identify equipment issues, document problems, and coordinate repairs with Biomedical Repair and Medical Physics personnel.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked CT suite.
• Perform required crash cart and emergency contrast kit checks.
• Maintain appropriate documentation of continuing education and clinical experience in accordance with ACR and facility requirements.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an academic program accredited by JRCERT, COE, or an equivalent accrediting organization.
• At least 1 year of CT experience within the last 2 years as a Radiologic Technologist or in the CT specialty.
• ARRT certification in CT.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Strong knowledge of CT procedures, contrast safety, patient positioning, and emergency response.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary clinical environment.

Additional Requirement

Candidates must provide two letters of recommendation written within the past two years attesting to their clinical skills.

• One letter must be from a practicing radiologist or supervisory technologist who has personally observed and evaluated your clinical skills.
• The second may come from a healthcare administrator, physician, nurse, or peer technologist with direct knowledge of your patient-care abilities.

References should speak to your communication skills, ability to relate to patients, professionalism, and interpersonal skills with clinical staff.

Preferred Experience

Previous experience within the VA/federal healthcare system is preferred, but not required.
