Job Summary
Our client is seeking a Medical Surgical Registered Nurse to join their team at a premier clinical research hospital. As a Clinical Research Nurse (General RN), you will provide specialized direct care to patients participating in groundbreaking clinical trials. This role integrates traditional acute-care bedside nursing with clinical research execution—ensuring patient safety, delivering advanced care, maintaining protocol integrity, and protecting human research subjects.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive, evidence-based nursing care to diverse inpatient and outpatient populations enrolled in experimental research protocols.
- Perform clinical assessments, monitor vital signs, administer medications (oral, IV, subcutaneous, IM), blood products, and investigational agents per protocol standards.
- Manage specialized medical equipment (e.g., cardiac monitors, infusion pumps) and complex lines or drainage systems.
- Respond to acute changes in patient condition and initiate emergency procedures when necessary.
- Review and interpret research protocols to ensure care aligns with study requirements.
- Collect, process, and document research data (e.g., biological specimens, pharmacokinetic draws, precise drug-administration times) with strict adherence to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines.
- Maintain detailed electronic health records (EHR) tracking patient responses, adverse events, and protocol variances.
- Collaborate daily with principal investigators, physicians, scientists, and allied health professionals to optimize care plans and balance research requirements with clinical needs.
- Support the informed consent process, ensuring participants understand study procedures, risks, and their rights as research subjects.
- Provide education and emotional support to patients and their families throughout the research process.
Qualifications
- Active unrestricted RN License
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- 2 years of current Med/Surg experience
Experience
- 2 years in medical/surgical nursing
- Preferred: Prior experience in clinical research, clinical trials, or protocol management
Skills
- Strong familiarity with electronic documentation systems and federal health privacy regulations (HIPAA/CUI)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Additional Requirements
- Shift: 40 hours a week night shift, including 8 and 12-hour shifts
