Job Summary
Our client is seeking a Gastrointestinal Coder to join their dynamic team. This role involves reading and interpreting medical records for surgical procedures and office encounters, assigning accurate CPT®, HCPCS, ICD-10 codes, and collaborating with healthcare providers to ensure precision in coding and documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret medical record documentation for surgical procedures, office encounters, and assign CPT®, HCPCS, and ICD-10 codes accurately.
- Respond to provider questions with research-based written communication to educate on correct coding and documentation.
- Manage specialty-specific work queues, reviewing patient encounters for pre-claim accuracy.
- Review and correct claim edit work queues for timely submission to payers.
- Participate in education programs and monthly department meetings.
- Maintain 90% or higher coding accuracy and required production levels.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Core coding certification credential from AAPC or AHIMA: CPC, CCS-P required.
- Minimum of 3 years recent experience in the outpatient setting (primary care & surgical) with a focus on Profee surgical coding in General Surgery, Gastrointestinal, and Hepatobiliary.
- Gastrointestinal coding experience with knowledge in E/M and GI procedures/surgeries is essential.
- Strong knowledge of CMS manuals, federal and regulatory guidelines, and correct coding policies.
- Proficient in electronic medical record software, preferably Epic.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Preferred CGSC or CGIC certification and Epic experience.

- Technical skills: Proficiency in electronic medical record software (preferably Epic) and Microsoft Office.
- Soft skills: Strong discipline in time management and productivity, effective written communication skills.
Additional Requirements
- 40 hours per week with a flexible work schedule (choose shift between 5pm-9pm CST).
- Fully Remote (Excluding: California, Connecticut, Illinois, Maine, New Jersey, Massachusetts, New York, Washington).
