Job Summary

Our client is seeking an experienced Underwriter to join their team. The primary responsibilities of this role include underwriting health insurance applications, conducting risk assessments, and supporting new business growth. The successful candidate will execute a range of underwriting support functions and ensure compliance with departmental metrics and standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Underwrite 6-8 groups per day and up to 12 during the peak season to support new business growth.
• Execute operational underwriting support functions in compliance with departmental metrics and standards.
• Evaluate new business applications against established risk guidelines for eligibility determination.
• Review medical history and risk data to assess potential claim exposure and risk adjustments.
• Audit group participation data and employee census to ensure compliance with underwriting standards.
• Conduct detailed comparative financial analyses using proprietary models.
• Interview stakeholders and applicants to gather supplemental health histories.
• Formulate rate adjustment recommendations and document risk rationales.
• Investigate complex claims and support senior underwriting decision-making.
• Draft summaries for insurance department inquiries and formal appeals.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in small group health insurance underwriting.
• Experience with Level Funded Small groups (1-100).
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Risk review experience.
