Job Summary
Our client is seeking a dedicated Surgical Coder with expertise in podiatric surgical procedures. The primary responsibility of this role is to accurately translate and code operative notes using CPT and ICD-10, ensuring compliance with industry standards and maximizing reimbursement.
Key Responsibilities
- Operative Report Coding: Handle coding for podiatric surgical procedures like bunionectomies and reconstructive surgeries.
- Modifier Application: Ensure accurate use of anatomical, lateral, and surgical unbundling modifiers.
- Compliance & NCCI Edits: Use National Correct Coding Initiative edits for guideline analysis and compliance.
- Routine & Office-Based Care: Code evaluations, minor procedures, DME, and office evaluations.
- Provider Queries & Feedback: Collaborate with surgeons for documentation clarity and compliance feedback.
- Denials & Edits Resolution: Review claim edits and handle coding-related denials.
- Stay Updated: Maintain credentials and keep up with ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS updates.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of podiatry coding experience.
- EPIC experience.
- Ownership of own equipment and encoder.
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or equivalent certification required.
Skills
- Technical skills in Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems like Modernizing Medicine (EMA), TRAKnet, or Sammy.
- Experience with podiatry-specific EHR systems and enterprise systems like Epic and AthenaHealth.
- Proficiency in coding for custom foot orthotics and post-operative DME.
- Denials Management & Appeals: Experience in successful coding appeals.
- Clinical Documentation Improvement: Providing feedback to improve operative documentation.
- Auditing Experience: Internal coding audits and collaboration with RCM audit teams.
