Job Summary
Our client is seeking a dedicated Financial Counselor. The primary responsibility of this role is to conduct bedside screenings and assist patients in assessing eligibility for various financial assistance programs. This position plays a crucial role in maintaining patient records and managing high volumes of patient files independently.
Key Responsibilities
- Interview inpatient, outpatient, and ED patients at the bedside to determine eligibility for financial assistance programs.
- Screen for multiple benefit types, including Emergency Medicaid, ADD, Plan A, Institutional Medicaid, Charity Care, and disability benefits.
- Complete both paper and electronic applications (NJ FamilyCare), collect patient signatures, and gather required documentation.
- Upload all completed applications, verification documents, and case notes accurately into the EPIC electronic health record system.
- Complete the mandatory online training for Presumptive Eligibility (PE) to officially submit time-sensitive applications.
- Manage a high volume of patient files independently, taking detailed notes and asking for support proactively if volumes spike.
Qualifications
- Verbal, reading, and writing fluency in English and either Spanish or Portuguese.
- Ability to work seamlessly within the specialized culture and sensitive patient demographics.
- Basic computer literacy and the ability to learn hospital software platforms quickly.
Experience
- Prior experience with NJ FamilyCare, Medicaid enrollment, or hospital Charity Care programs.
- Proficiency navigating the EPIC electronic health record system.
- Certified Presumptive Eligibility (PE) screener status.
Additional Requirements
- Absolute availability to work a rotating weekend shift (one Saturday or Sunday per week) and designated holidays.
