Job Summary
Our client is seeking a Medical Assistant to join their healthcare team. The primary responsibilities include preparing patients for exams, managing patient records, assisting physicians during minor procedures, and ensuring compliance with medical protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet and escort patients from the waiting room to exam rooms.
- Prepare patients for exams or treatments and take medical histories.
- Set up charts for physicians when patients are ready in exam rooms.
- Prepare exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments and assist physicians in examinations and minor procedures.
- Pre-certify surgical and other procedures, if necessary.
- Schedule tests and off-site procedures and communicate physician referral requests to referral staff.
- Dispose of contaminated items in accordance with OSHA guidelines.
- Obtain and handle laboratory specimens following CLIA guidelines.
- Take medical stock inventory and report supply shortages to the Manager.
- Prepare samples for transport to reference lab and ensure appropriate requisition paperwork for specimen processing and billing.
- Clean and secure equipment at the end of the day, ensuring cabinets are locked.
- Monitor logs of specimens collected and sent to the reference lab, ensuring timely report returns.
- Direct lab results to physicians for review and treatment plans.
- Handle patient phone calls and return calls after consulting with physicians, including calling pharmacies and other healthcare professionals.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and practice compliance guidelines.
- Maintain detailed knowledge of practice management and relevant computer software.
Qualifications
- Need EMR experience.
- Minimum of 1 year of Medical Assistant experience.
- Bilingual (Spanish) is preferred.
- Medical Assistant Diploma or National Certification is preferred.
Skills
- Proficiency in Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
- Strong communication and patient interaction skills.
Additional Requirements
Schedule: Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 5 pm, with flexibility required from 8 am to 8 pm, and occasional Saturday shifts.
