Job Summary
Our client is seeking a dedicated Surgery Scheduler responsible for coordinating surgical procedures, ensuring efficient schedules that accommodate physician availability, operating room schedules, and patient needs. The role involves communicating with various medical staff and ensuring all pre-operative documentation is complete.
Key Responsibilities
- Schedule surgical procedures according to physician availability, operating room schedules, and patient needs.
- Coordinate with hospitals, surgical centers, anesthesiologists, and medical staff.
- Verify patient demographics, medical history, and required pre-operative documentation.
- Obtain and verify insurance authorizations and referrals prior to procedures.
- Communicate pre-operative instructions, appointment details, and preparation guidelines to patients.
- Ensure all necessary lab work, imaging, and clearances are completed before surgery.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date scheduling records in electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
- Handle schedule changes, cancellations, and urgent requests efficiently.
- Serve as a point of contact for patients regarding surgical scheduling questions and concerns.
- Adhere to HIPAA and confidentiality standards.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or healthcare certification preferred.
- Previous experience in medical scheduling, surgical coordination, or healthcare administration preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance verification, and prior authorization processes.
- Proficiency in EMR systems and scheduling software.
- Strong organizational, multitasking, and time management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to work in a high-pressure environment.
- Surgical Scheduling Experience preferred.
