Job Summary
The Patient Account Representative is responsible for delivering exceptional service to individuals with inquiries related to specialized medical and surgical billing. This role plays a critical part in the revenue cycle by assisting patients with questions about charges, payment plans, insurance coverage, and account balances, while ensuring accurate, timely, and professional communication. This is a full-time, on-site position based at our corporate headquarters, reporting directly to the VP of Revenue.
Key Responsibilities
- Patient Communication: Respond to inbound and outbound patient inquiries regarding specialized clinical billing, payment arrangements, insurance benefits, and outstanding balances.
- Account Clarification: Clearly and professionally explain charges, financial responsibilities, and statement breakdowns to patients.
- Data Management: Verify and update patient demographics, insurance information, and payment status within the centralized billing system.
- Payment Processing: Process patient payments, establish authorized payment plans, and update account records accurately.
- Issue Escalation: Route complex account issues and advanced disputes to the appropriate billing specialists or management team members.
- Internal Collaboration: Partner with internal billing and coding teams to clarify clinical documentation or resolve claims discrepancies.
- Omnichannel Support: Respond to patient inquiries thoroughly through email, voicemail, and the secure patient portal.
- Documentation: Accurately log all patient interactions, notes, and action steps within the internal system.
- Compliance: Maintain strict compliance with HIPAA regulations alongside company privacy and security policies.
- Financial Administration: Assist with patient statement processing, patient refunds, and follow-up tasks regarding balance billing issues.
- Special Projects: Support internal audits, claim follow-up tasks, and special administrative projects as needed.
- General Duties: Fulfill other administrative and operational duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Spanish Bilingual - Fluent in English and Spanish
- Solid understanding of EOBs, payment plans, medical terminology, and HIPAA regulations
- Background within an ASC or hospital environment is preferred
