Job Summary
Our client is seeking a dedicated Medical Billing Specialist. This position is crucial for managing and submitting insurance claims for healthcare services. The selected candidate's primary responsibilities include ensuring the accuracy and timely submission of claims, resolving billing errors, and ensuring full payment is received, thus supporting the overall revenue cycle process.
Key Responsibilities
- Submit primary and secondary insurance claims according to payer guidelines.
- Review claims for accuracy before submission and correct any errors.
- Resolve claim rejections, denials, and returned claims.
- Resubmit corrected claims in a timely manner.
- Stay current on insurance payer requirements and billing regulations.
- Review patient accounts to verify insurance payments and identify outstanding balances.
- Contact insurance companies to resolve unpaid or denied claims.
- Process account adjustments, insurance updates, and financial class changes.
- Document all account activity clearly and accurately.
- Work with departments to resolve billing issues and review billing reports for corrections.
- Research authorizations, medical records, and documentation for claim appeals.
- Identify recurring denials, payment trends, and communicate findings to management.
- Complete assigned worklists and special projects accurately and on time.
- Maintain productivity and quality standards.
- Keep organized records and follow departmental policies and procedures.
- Adapt to changing priorities and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience
- At least 1 year of healthcare billing experience in a hospital, physician practice, or medical office.
Skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Experience with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems.
- Experience with Cerner, Athena, or Epic is preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
