Job Summary
The Medical Assistant provides clinical and administrative support to orthopedic physicians and advanced practice providers in a fast-paced outpatient setting. The primary responsibilities include assisting with patient care, preparing patients for evaluation and treatment, supporting in-office procedures, and coordinating diagnostic testing to ensure efficient clinic operations while delivering exceptional patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Room patients and obtain vital signs, height, weight, pain scores, and conduct medication reconciliation.
- Review and update medical, surgical, family, and social histories.
- Document chief complaint, mechanism of injury, and reason for visit.
- Assist providers with joint injections, aspirations, fracture reductions, casting, splinting, wound care, and other in-office procedures.
- Educate patients on injury care, cast and splint care, brace use, and postoperative instructions.
- Coordinate preoperative testing and required medical clearances;
- Answer patient phone calls and respond to patient portal messages.
- Schedule follow-up appointments and imaging studies.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
- Current Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or equivalent) preferred or required based on state regulations.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Previous orthopedic, sports medicine, or surgical clinic experience preferred.
Experience
- 2-3+ years of experience as a Medical Assistant.
- Specific experience in orthopedic, sports medicine, or surgical clinic preferred.
Skills
- Technical skills include proficiency in electronic medical records and clinical procedures.
- Soft skills include excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Preferred skills include experience with Athena, bilingual abilities, and orthopedic & sports medicine specialty experience.
Additional Requirements
- Driver's License and proof of auto insurance.
