About the Role
We are seeking a proactive, adaptable, and highly organized Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to join our dynamic specialty team in Puyallup. Operating within a collaborative three-team structure (spanning Chronic Pain, Surgery, and other specialized tracks), this role is designed for a versatile professional who can fluidly transition between fast-paced clinical support and focused administrative coordination.
The ideal candidate is an active "self-starter" who thrives in a team-centric environment, possesses great clinical humility, and is deeply committed to delivering exceptional patient care through both hands-on tasks and efficient triage.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Support & Patient Care
- Patient Rooming: Efficiently room and prep 17–24 patients per day (volume varies by provider), ensuring an optimal clinical workflow.
- Procedure Assistance: Actively assist providers with minor clinical procedures; maintain, prep, and sanitize exam rooms to the highest standards.
- Nurse Visits: Independently perform wound checks, post-operative drain pulls, and other vital duties strictly within the MA scope of practice.
Coordination & Triage
- Phone Triage: Manage incoming clinical calls across various specialty teams, assessing and prioritizing urgent patient needs with professionalism.
- Administrative Flow: Oversee patient scheduling, follow-up communications, and precise EMR documentation to keep the provider’s schedule running smoothly.
Team Collaboration & Cross-Coverage
- Work in lockstep with Surgeons, Physician Assistants (PAs), and the Lead MA to maintain an excellent standard of care.
- Actively provide "cross-coverage" support for teammates during high-volume periods, gaps in scheduling, or staff vacations.
Position Requirements
- Certification: Must hold an active Washington State Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential.
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year of recent clinical experience. Specialization in Orthopedics or Interventional Pain Management is a significant plus.
- Clinical Readiness: Candidates must currently be active in the medical assisting field with no significant recent gaps in clinical employment.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with AthenaHealth EMR is highly preferred.
Desired Soft Skills
- Initiative: A true "go-getter" who anticipates clinic needs and handles tasks proactively without needing to be prompted.
- Adaptability: Perfectly comfortable in a hybrid role that dynamically shifts day-to-day between administrative coordination and clinical support.
- Humility: A team player who is open to constructive feedback, eager to learn, and dedicated to continuous professional improvement.
