Job Summary
Our client is seeking a Dental Assistant to support dental supervisors and the Dental Director in providing quality care to patients. Key responsibilities include scheduling patients, assisting in dental treatments, sterilizing instruments, and ensuring compliance with infection control procedures.
Responsibilities / Job Duties
- Works in conjunction with Dental supervisor and Dental Director providing quality care to patients.
- Schedule patients for dental clinics.
- Assist to coordinate patient flow.
- Answer telephones, provides information and appointments to callers.
- Collects donations from patients, completes all forms required and submits money with reports to administration.
- Ensures that the dental department is properly and cleaned.
- Adhere to infection control practices: Universal precautions; Hand Washing; Sterile/aseptic technique.
- Record in sterilizing log every time instruments are sterilized and maintain related logs.
- Clean, sterilize and assemble instruments, supplies, and equipment required during specific dental procedures.
- Maintain and observe ergonomic safety precautions.
- Prepare patients for oral surgery and other dental treatments and assist in dental treatment of patients.
- Take vital signs on patients when necessary.
- Take digital oral x-rays used in diagnosis and treatment of patients.
- Record treatment results on patient’s dental record, instruct patients in the care of teeth and provide instructional materials.
- Discharge and arrange follow-up appointments.
- Works with front office to ensure integrity of dental records.
- Promote cost-effectiveness by utilizing equipment and supplies efficiently.
- Learn and use current Management Information System (MIS).
- Maintain current CPR certification.
- Perform clerical duties as assigned, including dental front office coverage.
- Verify patient insurance coverage to ensure appropriate patient eligibility before scheduling appointments.
- Daily use of text messaging apps to monitor and respond to incoming messages.
- Attend in-services as scheduled by the supervisor and participate in trainings to keep current with industry changes.
- Comply with all HIPAA regulations.
- Ability to lift/move up to 15 pounds.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Qualification Requirements
Education
- Dental Assistant Diploma and X-Ray Certification
- CPR Certification
- High school graduate or equivalent.
Qualifications
- Bilingual in English/Spanish.
- Familiarity with OSHA protocols.
- Flexibility to cover at other locations occasionally.
- Experience with any dental software.
Schedule / Shift
- Shifts: 7:30am - 4:30pm or 8:30am - 5:30pm (shifts may differ depending on when doctors are present).
Preferred Skills
- 1 year or more of experience (open to new graduates if they have good references and are eager to learn).
