Our client is seeking a Psychiatric Registered Nurse Manager for an Acute Care Crisis Psychiatric Unit. This full-time leadership role is responsible for delivering high-quality nursing care and managing an inpatient nursing unit. You will ensure the administrative management of over 50 FTEs on a 24-hour basis, demonstrate proficiency in delivering care to a diverse patient population, and engage in continuing education.

Medix is seeking an experienced RN Nurse Manager to lead an Acute Care Crisis Psychiatric Unit, in a 25-bed inpatient behavioral health program serving patients experiencing acute psychiatric crises.

Position Overview
The RN Nurse Manager is accountable for the delivery of high-quality patient care and the administrative management of the inpatient psychiatric unit on a 24-hour basis. This leader will oversee approximately 57 caregivers, including Registered Nurses, Mental Health Workers, Social Work Associates, and Health Unit Coordinators.
The ideal candidate will be a strong people leader with inpatient psychiatric leadership experience, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to support staff through complex behavioral health situations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily operations of a 25-bed inpatient acute psychiatric unit
- Manage staffing, scheduling, productivity, and workforce planning
- Oversee caregiver performance, engagement, and development
- Approve PTO requests and maintain appropriate staffing coverage
- Ensure compliance with patient care standards and regulatory requirements
- Monitor patient acuity and staffing needs
- Support staff in crisis intervention and de-escalation situations
- Serve as a clinical and operational resource for the team
- Participate in leadership meetings and hospital initiatives
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality patient care
- Maintain knowledge of LPS holds and behavioral health regulations
- Provide occasional evening visibility for night-shift staff (approximately twice per month)
Patient Population
This unit serves adults experiencing acute psychiatric crises, including:
- Psychosis
- Suicidal ideation
- Homicidal ideation
- Mania
- Severe depression
- Aggressive behaviors
- Substance use disorders
Patients are often admitted through the Emergency Department or transferred from other Providence facilities.
Required Qualifications
- Active California RN License
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Current BLS/CPR Certification
- 3+ years of recent RN experience in inpatient acute psychiatry
- 2+ years of recent leadership experience as a Clinical Supervisor, Assistant Nurse Manager, or Nurse Manager in an inpatient psychiatric setting
- Clinical nursing experience in inpatient Behavioral Health/Psychiatry
- Leadership experience within an inpatient psychiatric or behavioral health setting
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with staffing, scheduling, and productivity management
- Familiarity with Kronos/UKG scheduling systems
- Knowledge of California LPS regulations and LA County behavioral health systems
