Job Summary
Our client is seeking an Activities Assistant to lead and coordinate individual and group recreational activities, such as art, music, crafts, and special events to boost participants' physical fitness, psychosocial functioning, and resilience. The role involves collaborating with the Activity and Volunteer Functional Manager and Activity Coordinator to develop impactful programs, and providing support and training as needed.
Responsibilities / Job Duties
- Lead and coordinate individual and group recreational activities, including art, music, crafts, discussions, outings, and special events/holidays.
- Collaborate closely with the Activity and Volunteer Functional Manager and Activity Coordinator to develop meaningful activity programs.
- Support daily operation of Activity programs created by the Activity Coordinator.
- Assist with documentation and provide coverage for the Activity Coordinator at meetings as required.
- Conduct required participant assessments and possess a Certificate of Activity Leadership approved by the California Department of Public Health.
- Monitor and maintain supplies and equipment in activity service and storage areas.
- Maintain a neat and clean environment in the activities service and storage areas.
- Provide training and support to volunteers, guest speakers, and outside entertainers and instructors as appropriate.
- Assist with general support at the center, including greeting participants and escorting ambulatory and mobility-impaired participants.
- Observe and report changes in participants’ conditions, such as ambulation and general behavior.
- Assist with transferring participants during activities and maintain a professional attitude.
- Comply with agency training requirements and maintain professional affiliations and certifications.
- Ensure safety for participants and self by being aware of and addressing safety hazards.
Minimum Education and Experience Qualification Requirements
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
Qualifications
- Current CPR certification and First Aid training preferred.
Skills
- Ability to work in a diverse and interdisciplinary setting.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Flexibility, initiative, and willingness to learn.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Bilingual abilities in Spanish, Cantonese, or Mandarin are an advantage.
Schedule / Shift
Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
