Job Summary
Our client is seeking a Financial Counselor with expertise in managing financial clearance, authorization, and revenue cycle documentation. The primary goal of this role is to ensure accurate insurance verification and to support patients in understanding their financial responsibilities.
Responsibilities / Job Duties
- Manage the end-to-end verification of insurance benefits, ensuring 100% accuracy of payer sources, financial classes, and billing data for all registered accounts.
- Coordinate with Case Management and Utilization Review teams to secure necessary authorizations and reference numbers, ensuring inpatient accounts are fully documented for reimbursement.
- Identify patient financial responsibility, including copays and deductibles; counsel patients on non-covered services and establish payment arrangements or referrals to financial resources.
- Maintain comprehensive account notes regarding insurance verification, concurrent reviews, and payer communications to proactively prevent claim denials.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for patient intake, obtaining necessary consents and providing high-touch, sensitive communication across diverse patient populations.
Minimum Education and Experience Qualification Requirements
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; CPAT certification or relevant college coursework is highly preferred.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience in healthcare revenue cycle, insurance verification, or a physician’s office/admissions setting.
- Strong proficiency in patient accounting systems, medical terminology, and complex insurance payer structures.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain required regional safety and workplace conduct certifications (e.g., fire safety and crisis prevention) within 30 days of hire.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with a proven ability to collaborate across clinical departments and maintain strict patient confidentiality.
- Bilingual: English/Spanish or English/Armenian is a plus.
- Meditech EMR experience is a plus.
