Job Summary
Our client is seeking a dedicated Financial Counselor to join their team. This role involves obtaining and documenting patient demographic and financial information while educating patients about financial assistance programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Obtain and document patient demographic and financial information.
- Screen patients for New Jersey Medicaid and Charity Care eligibility.
- Complete and submit Medicaid and Charity Care applications to the appropriate state and county agencies.
- Follow up with patients and family members to obtain required documentation and ensure timely application completion.
- Process incoming patient correspondence and supporting documentation.
- Complete Presumptive Eligibility (PE) determinations for qualified patients.
- Verify insurance coverage and eligibility when applicable.
- Educate patients on financial assistance programs and available payment options.
- Collect self-pay deposits when required.
- Establish and negotiate payment arrangements with patients.
- Prepare financial estimates based on treatment plans, deductibles, copays, and insurance benefits.
- Resolve complex patient financial issues and escalate only the most advanced concerns when necessary.
- Provide guidance, coaching, and support to less experienced team members.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bilingual required.
- Strong communication, patient advocacy, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working with insurance verification, Medicaid, Charity Care, healthcare revenue cycle, or patient access functions is highly preferred.
Skills
- Spanish language proficiency.
- Experience with EPIC EMR is preferred.
