Job Summary
We are seeking a Chemist for our client who will be responsible for overseeing routine inspections of hazardous waste areas and supporting compliance with environmental and workplace safety regulations. The role involves the coordination of hazardous waste collection, segregation, and preparation for shipment and disposal, as well as performing chemical identification and waste characterization activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspections of hazardous waste accumulation and storage areas.
- Support compliance efforts related to environmental, transportation, and workplace safety regulations.
- Coordinate the collection, segregation, and preparation of hazardous waste streams for shipment and disposal.
- Assist with chemical identification, compatibility reviews, and waste characterization activities.
- Consolidate chemical materials from laboratories, production areas, and storage locations when appropriate.
- Verify proper labeling, marking, and documentation of waste containers.
- Maintain inventory levels for safety equipment, labels, shipping supplies, and compliance materials.
- Track waste generation and storage activities to ensure regulatory requirements are met.
- Support inventory management and general housekeeping of waste handling areas.
- Follow established operating procedures, safety protocols, and customer-specific requirements.
- Maintain organized records and documentation related to waste management activities.
- Participate in special projects and additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Understanding of hazardous waste handling, chemical safety, or environmental operations.
- Knowledge of environmental and workplace safety regulations is preferred.
- Experience working with chemical waste, laboratory packing, waste profiling, or material handling is a plus.
- Familiarity with waste collection programs, chemical segregation, and accumulation area management is beneficial.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work safely around chemicals and industrial materials.
- 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification preferred but not required.
- Ability to obtain a Class B Commercial Driver's License with applicable endorsements within six months of hire.
- Ability to wear respiratory protection and other required personal protective equipment.
- Reliable attendance and ability to work onsite during scheduled hours.
