Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) to join our client's growing urology team. This temporary position covers a leave until November, providing clinical and administrative support to physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants in a fast-paced outpatient setting. The role involves ensuring exceptional patient care, and the ideal candidate will be highly organized, able to multitask, and committed to a professional, patient-centered environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcome and escort patients to examination rooms, ensuring proper patient identification and comfort.
- Obtain and document vital signs, medical history, medication reconciliation, and reason for visit within the EMR.
- Perform patient assessments and assist providers with examinations and office-based procedures.
- Prepare patients for appointments, treatments, and diagnostic procedures.
- Educate patients regarding diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, and post-procedure care.
- Administer medications and injections as ordered by providers and document appropriately in the EMR.
- Perform blood glucose monitoring and other routine clinical testing according to established protocols.
- Assist with bladder scans, uroflow studies, catheter changes, and clean intermittent self-catheterization training.
- Administer intravesical therapies, including BCG, Mitomycin, DMSO, Valstar, and other provider-ordered treatments.
- Monitor patients for adverse reactions and report concerns promptly to the supervising provider.
- Accurately document all nursing interventions, treatments, medications, and patient interactions.
- Coordinate and manage daily patient flow to support efficient provider schedules.
- Schedule patient appointments, diagnostic testing, procedures, and surgeries within the EMR.
- Obtain insurance authorizations and assist with medication prior authorizations.
- Complete disability forms and other required patient documentation.
- Ensure surgical scheduling documentation is complete and communicated to the surgical scheduling team.
- Triage incoming patient calls, addressing questions, concerns, and clinical needs with professionalism and empathy.
- Maintain accurate patient records and ensure timely completion of all documentation.
- Maintain examination rooms, treatment areas, and clinical equipment in a clean, organized, and fully stocked condition.
- Order and manage clinical supplies while monitoring inventory levels and expiration dates.
- Prepare rooms and equipment for in-office procedures and assist providers as needed.
- Follow OSHA guidelines, infection control standards, and organizational policies at all times.
- Monitor and document refrigerator temperatures, eyewash stations, and other required safety checks.
- Participate in mandatory trainings, certifications, and annual compliance requirements.
- Assist with additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
- BLS certification required.
- Strong clinical assessment and patient education skills.
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
- Previous experience in oncology, surgical, ambulatory, or specialty practice preferred.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and multitasking abilities.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with physicians and clinical staff.
- Commitment to providing exceptional patient care and maintaining confidentiality.
Additional Requirements
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM.
- Potential early start at 6 AM on Tuesdays and one required Sunday per month.
