Job Summary
Our client is seeking an Emergency Department Registrar to manage patient intake, insurance verification, and financial responsibilities while ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations. The role requires effective communication with patients, families, and cross-departmental teams to optimize patient flow and provide excellent customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Interview walk-in patients or their families to accurately collect and enter demographic, legal, and medical information into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
- Verify health insurance coverage, eligibility, and benefits in real-time and ensure timely coordination of necessary pre-authorizations.
- Calculate accurate estimates for patient financial responsibility, explain copays or deductibles, and manage payments or establish payment plans.
- Adhere to healthcare regulations, including maintaining patient confidentiality as per HIPAA and ensuring compliance with EMTALA.
- Act as a liaison between front lobby, clinical staff, billing department, and incoming medical transport to optimize patient flow.
- Provide professional, calming, and supportive customer service to patients and family members.
Qualifications
- HS Diploma or proof of education.
- At least 1 year of experience with patient registration in healthcare.
- Committed to 3rd shift schedule from 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM, Monday through Friday with rotating weekends.
- Preferred: Ability to remain focused and calm in a loud, fast-paced environment and technical proficiency with database programs and electronic health records.
- Preferred: A baseline understanding of medical terminology, coding, and insurance practices.
