Job Summary
Our client is seeking a skilled Coder to review charges for both inpatient and outpatient settings, specifically focusing on Cardiology and Cardiothoracic providers. The primary responsibilities include interpreting medical record documentation and ensuring the accurate assignment of CPT®, HCPCS, and ICD-10 codes, along with modifiers and units for claim submission. The coder will also address provider inquiries by conducting coding research and providing educational communication.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and interpret medical records to assign correct codes for Cardiology and Cardiothoracic related services.
- Work on specialty-specific queues including Cardiology, Cardiothoracic, and Vascular Surgery.
- Perform charge review for accuracy and completeness before claim submission.
- Correct claim edits to ensure timely submission to payers.
- Participate in educational programs and department meetings.
- Maintain 90% or higher coding accuracy and required production levels.
- Complete additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; Associate degree is an asset.
- Experience in Cardiology, Cardiothoracic, and Vascular surgery coding.
- Professional coding experience of at least two years or related experience with HCC.
- Core coding certification from AAPC or AHIMA: CPC, CCS-P required, CCC preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and electronic medical record software, preferably Epic.
- Strong understanding of CMS manuals, federal guidelines, and coding policies.
Skills
- Proficiency in coding for Echos, surgeries, E&M, office visits & procedures.
- Strong time management and productivity discipline.
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications.
- Preferred experience with Epic software.
