We are seeking an experienced and motivated Circulator RN to join a high-performing surgical team in Westmont, IL. This is an excellent opportunity for an Operating Room nurse looking for strong work-life balance, a collaborative environment, and a weekday schedule with no weekends or holidays. Candidates must have recent OR experience with a focus in Spine and Orthopedic procedures.
Position Summary
The Circulator RN is responsible for delivering safe, high-quality perioperative nursing care to surgical patients while ensuring compliance with nursing standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies. This role requires excellent clinical judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to support a fast-paced surgical setting.
Responsibilities
Patient Care & Clinical Duties
- Perform comprehensive preoperative nursing assessments including physiological and psychosocial status.
- Complete patient history and assess pain according to policy.
- Identify patient goals and establish individualized nursing diagnoses and care plans.
- Implement and continuously update care plans based on patient and family needs.
- Educate patients and families regarding procedures, expectations, and recovery process.
- Ensure continuity of care through clear verbal handoff communication and accurate documentation.
Intraoperative Responsibilities
- Serve as the circulating nurse during surgical procedures.
- Maintain sterile field awareness and ensure proper aseptic technique.
- Perform surgical counts and complete required documentation.
- Verify patient identity, surgical procedure, and surgical site per policy.
- Assist with positioning and preparation of patients for surgery.
- Anticipate surgeon and procedural team needs during cases.
- Coordinate efficient room turnover between procedures.
- Obtain and handle blood products according to protocol.
- Respond effectively to emergencies and urgent clinical situations.
Compliance & Professional Standards
- Practice within legal, ethical, and professional nursing guidelines.
- Adhere to Nurse Practice Act, Joint Commission standards, and Patient Bill of Rights.
- Demonstrate accountability, sound judgment, and flexibility in patient care delivery.
- Participate in professional development and nursing organizations as applicable.
Qualifications
Required
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Minimum 6 months of Operating Room experience.
- Minimum 6 months of Orthopedic and/or Spine OR experience.
- Previous circulating and/or scrubbing experience.
- BLS certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
- Strong communication, organization, and critical thinking skills.

Preferred
- ASC or outpatient surgery center experience.
- ACLS certification.
- Multi-specialty surgical experience
