Job Summary
Our client is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Certified Medical Assistant to join an outpatient neurosurgery clinic. The ideal candidate will support neurosurgeons and clinical staff in delivering high-quality patient care, with a focus on efficiency, compassion, and professionalism. This role requires strong clinical and administrative abilities in a fast-paced specialty environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for examination by taking vital signs, documenting medical history, and updating electronic health records (EHR).
- Assist neurosurgeons and providers during patient visits, procedures, and minor in-office treatments.
- Coordinate patient flow to ensure timely and efficient clinic operations.
- Schedule appointments, diagnostic imaging, and follow-up visits.
- Obtain and manage prior authorizations for imaging studies, procedures, and medications.
- Perform basic clinical tasks such as wound care, suture removal, and dressing changes under provider supervision.
- Maintain exam rooms, ensuring cleanliness, proper stocking of supplies, and adherence to infection control protocols.
- Communicate effectively with patients regarding care plans, pre- and post-operative instructions, and referrals.
- Handle phone calls, patient inquiries, and messages in a professional and timely manner.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including radiology, physical therapy, and other specialists.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Medical Assistant certification preferred (e.g., CMA, RMA).
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in a clinical setting; neurosurgery, orthopedics, or specialty care experience strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR/EHR) systems.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, especially related to neurology and spine conditions.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Licensure & Requirements
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Compliance with New York State scope of practice for Medical Assistants.
