Job Summary
Our client is seeking an experienced Authorization Specialist to join their team. The primary responsibilities of this role include obtaining prior authorizations for outpatient radiology imaging, securing insurance approvals for advanced medications, and processing authorizations for infusion therapy. As an integral part of the team, you will actively communicate with insurance providers and collaborate with clinical staff to ensure timely patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Obtain prior authorizations for outpatient radiology imaging (MRI, CT, Ultrasound, X-ray, PET scans).
- Secure insurance approvals for advanced medications, including biologics, specialty drugs, injections, and high-cost therapies.
- Process and track authorizations for infusion therapy, including oncology, rheumatology, and chronic disease infusions.
- Review clinical documentation, physician orders, and medical necessity requirements before submitting authorization requests.
- Communicate with insurance providers to clarify coverage guidelines, resolve authorization denials, and request peer-to-peer reviews when appropriate.
- Maintain detailed and accurate documentation of authorization status, payer requirements, and communication notes in the EMR and scheduling systems.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and scheduling departments to ensure patients are cleared before appointments.
- Provide timely updates to clinical staff regarding authorization approvals, delays, or additional information needed.
- Verify patient insurance benefits, coverage limits, deductibles, and out-of-pocket requirements.
- Follow up on pending authorizations to prevent treatment delays and ensure timely service delivery.
- Assist in resolving billing issues related to authorization errors, denials, or coverage discrepancies.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payer policies, authorization workflows, and insurance changes.
- Ensure strict adherence to HIPAA confidentiality regulations and organizational compliance requirements.
Qualifications
- Previous Authorizations experience.
- Epic Required.
- Outpatient and Radiology Authorizations experience required.
- Injections Authorization experience preferred.
Skills
- Experience with EMR systems, specifically Epic.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Schedule
9:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday.
Hybrid Schedule - First 2 weeks onsite for training; then switches to 1 day a week in office, which can be flexible.
