Job Summary
Our client seeks a Medical Billing Clerk responsible for accurately preparing and submitting medical, dental, and behavioral health claims, managing accounts receivable records, and ensuring compliance with all relevant payer guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit accurate medical, dental, and behavioral health claims in a timely manner.
- Post insurance and patient payments, adjustments, and maintain accurate accounts receivable records.
- Monitor AR aging reports and follow up on outstanding insurance and patient balances.
- Review accounts for accuracy, process adjustments/refunds, and resolve billing discrepancies.
- Appeal and resubmit denied or rejected claims as needed.
- Ensure compliance with Medicaid, Medicare, CHIP, and other payer guidelines, staying current on regulatory updates.
- Maintain electronic claims systems and generate required billing reports.
- Identify billing issues impacting reimbursement and communicate concerns to management.
- Support departmental process improvements and participate in emergency response responsibilities as required.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a medical office setting, including claims submission and appeals with Medicaid, Medicare, managed care organizations, and other third-party payers.
- Working knowledge of medical and dental terminology, including ICD, CPT, CDT, and HCPCS coding.
- Strong understanding of patient confidentiality requirements and strict adherence to HIPAA regulations.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to address billing inquiries professionally.
- Proficient in practice management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Basic accounting knowledge required.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment, including computer, copier, fax, and 10-key calculator.
