Job Summary
Our client is seeking a Data Entry Pharmacy Technician who will be responsible for accurately entering prescription or medication orders into a pharmacy computer system to ensure safe dispensing and proper billing. The role supports pharmacists and helps maintain compliance with healthcare regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Enter new prescription orders into pharmacy software systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner).
- Accurately input drug name, strength, dosage form, directions (SIG), quantity and refills, and prescriber information.
- Verify patient demographics and allergies.
- Resolve insurance and billing information.
- Identify incomplete or unclear prescriptions.
- Communicate with prescribers’ offices for clarification.
- Maintain patient confidentiality (HIPAA compliance).
- Route completed entries to pharmacist for verification.
- Document interventions and notes when required.
Qualifications
- Strong data entry accuracy.
- Knowledge of pharmacy abbreviations (SIG codes).
- Familiarity with brand and generic medications.
- Understanding of insurance processing.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills.
Experience
- Previous pharmacy experience preferred.
Skills
- Basic computer proficiency and typing skills.
Additional Requirements
- Pharmacy Technician Texas state license - Active and in good standing.
- PTCB or ExCPT certification.
