Job Summary
This global manufacturer specializing in powder coatings and digital inks is currently seeking Machine Operators to support significant growth at its production facility. This role is a 9-month contract-to-hire opportunity focused on setting up, operating, and monitoring automated equipment used in powder coating production, with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, and reliable attendance during the initial 90 days.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate industrial machinery (including extruders, mills, sieves) using computer-controlled equipment according to production specifications.
- Perform equipment changeovers, prepare tooling, obtain and run samples, and conduct in-process quality checks to ensure batches meet standards.
- Accurately record operational and quality data on specified forms and within computer systems to maintain traceability.
- Package and label finished goods in designated cartons, stack product on appropriate skids, and document all packaging activities.
- Maintain a clean, organized workstation and follow 7S and Lean Manufacturing principles throughout the shift.
- Monitor production runs continuously to detect defects or deviations and escalate or adjust as needed to maintain quality.
- Clean, disassemble, and help maintain equipment, including cabin powder collection, to reduce waste and support efficient changeovers.
- Follow all safety requirements, including proper use of PPE and adherence to lockout/tagout and other plant safety procedures.
- Collaborate with coworkers and supervisors, participate in department meetings, and provide coverage for coworkers during breaks to meet production needs.
- Work in different production areas (such as standard and metallic powder lines) as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and a professional attitude.
Qualifications
- Prior experience operating industrial machinery in a manufacturing environment.
- Extrusion machine experience preferred, but other relevant machine operation backgrounds considered.
- Ability to safely drive and operate a forklift.
- Experience using computers to enter, track, and review production or quality data.
Skills
- Mechanical aptitude, including basic troubleshooting and ability to set up machines and perform changeovers.
- Ability to work safely around powders, dust, noise, and in a PPE-required environment (mask, eye protection, ear plugs).
- Capability to stand for up to 9 hours and repeatedly lift up to 55 lbs.
- Comfortable working in both standard and metallic powder production areas as assigned.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality checks throughout production runs.
- Professional attitude, teamwork orientation, and ability to communicate clearly with supervisors and coworkers.
- Prior extrusion experience or experience with similar continuous-flow processing equipment is preferred.
- Experience using an overhead crane in a manufacturing or warehousing environment is preferred.
- Strong computer literacy for entering production data and navigating basic manufacturing software or systems is preferred.
