Job Summary
The Patient Access Manager is responsible for overseeing all front-end revenue cycle functions, such as patient registration, insurance verification, authorization, financial counseling, and point-of-service collections. This role ensures compliance with regulatory standards and collective bargaining agreements while providing an exceptional patient experience. The Manager leads a team of union-represented staff and supervisors in a fast-paced hospital environment and collaborates closely with clinical, finance, compliance, and IT leadership to promote operational excellence and revenue integrity.
Responsibilities / Job Duties
- Provide leadership for Patient Access functions across various hospital services.
- Supervise and develop frontline supervisors and staff in alignment with collective bargaining agreements.
- Ensure 24/7 staffing coverage, including weekends and holidays.
- Track productivity, quality, and service metrics to implement performance improvements.
- Foster an environment of service excellence and teamwork.
- Administer and comply with collective bargaining agreements.
- Handle grievances, investigations, discipline, and contract interpretation in partnership with Human Resources and Labor Relations.
- Partake in labor-management meetings and negotiations as needed.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies and union contract terms.
- Oversee insurance verification, financial clearance, and revenue cycle tasks to reduce denials.
- Enhance point-of-service collections and financial counseling processes.
- Collaborate cross-departmentally to prevent revenue leakage.
- Adhere to HIPAA, CMS regulations, EMTALA, and other payer guidelines.
- Promote a patient-focused registration process and address service recovery situations.
