Job Summary
Our client is seeking a Hospitalist with primary responsibilities revolving around accurate coding of medical records, communication with providers for coding inquiries, and maintaining high accuracy and productivity standards. The position supports surgical procedures and encompasses extensive responsibilities in coding and documentation across various specialties such as Trauma, Orthopedics, GI/Bariatrics, Transplant, Cardiology, ENT, Radiation Oncology, and General Surgery.
Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret medical record documentation to assign accurate CPT®, HCPCS, and ICD-10 codes.
- Respond to provider questions with researched coding advice and provide education on correct coding practices.
- Manage specialty-specific work queues and review codes for accuracy and completeness.
- Review and correct claim edits for timely submission to payers.
- Participate in educational programs and department meetings.
- Maintain a minimum of 90% coding accuracy and departmental production standards.
- Promote a collaborative environment through open communication and relationship building.
Qualifications
- Hospital Inpatient and Outpatient E/M and ICD-10 experience.
- Core coding certification credential from AAPC or AHIMA: CPC-A, CPC, CCA, or CCS-P required.
- High school diploma or equivalent; Associate degree is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of CMS manuals, federal and regulatory guidelines, and correct coding policies.
- Epic experience preferred.
Experience
- A minimum of 2 years recent experience in the outpatient setting.
- Experience in procedural/surgical coding and electronic medical record software, preferably Epic.
Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Strong time management and productivity skills.
