Job Summary
Inpatient Coder to perform professional coding for cardiac surgery, cardiac catheterization procedures, and heart and vascular surgical services. The role involves accurately reviewing and interpreting operative notes, pathology reports, and radiology documentation, assigning appropriate CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS codes, and ensuring compliance with payer and regulatory guidelines. This position requires the ability to work independently while collaborating with assigned physicians.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform professional coding for cardiac surgery, cardiac catheterization procedures, and heart and vascular surgical services.
- Review and interpret operative notes, pathology reports, and radiology documentation.
- Assign CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS codes as per payer and regulatory guidelines.
- Utilize EMR messaging (InBasket) for documentation clarification in EPIC.
- Maintain productivity and quality standards, including participating in monthly quality audits.
Qualifications
- Active certification - CCS or CPC (CCA or CPCA considered with strong surgical background).
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS, and surgical documentation interpretation.
- Experience coding from detailed operative reports.
- Preferred skills: experience with EPIC and using 3M software.
- Must be located in one of the following states: AZ, CT, FL, MA, ME, MD, MI, NJ, NH, NC, OH, PA, RI, TX, WI
Experience
- 2+ years of experience in cardiac surgery coding, cardiac Cath lab coding, and heart & vascular surgical coding.
