Job Summary
In this role you will manage and review account credits to determine the correct actions for resolution. This role involves evaluating payment postings, adjustments, and charges to ensure accurate refund processing.
Key Responsibilities
- Examine patient and insurance credit balances to determine the correct recipient for refunds.
- Process payments, adjustments, and refunds accurately and efficiently.
- Review daily transactions from various sources, including electronic remittances, paper checks, EOBs, patients, collection agencies, capitation plans, Care Credit, and patient portals.
- Follow the department’s payment reconciliation procedures closely.
- Prioritize tasks to ensure timely completion of work.
- Meet or exceed productivity and accuracy standards for daily assignments.
- Maintain error rates within departmental guidelines.
- Update demographic or account information as needed to generate accurate patient statements.
- Respond to internal and external phone inquiries promptly and professionally.
- Manage and respond to emails in a timely manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of medical billing experience
- Experience with payment posting, adjustments and refunds
- Active knowledge of CMS guidelines, contracted insurance guidelines and coding policies
- High School diploma or GED
- Preferred: Ophthalmology experience and NextGen experience
