Job Summary
The Phlebotomist plays a key role in supporting clinical research studies by performing high-quality blood collection and specimen handling in accordance with study protocols, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and laboratory standards. This position works closely with study coordinators, investigators, and laboratory staff to ensure accurate sample collection, documentation, and processing that supports reliable research outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood draws on research participants of varying ages and health statuses.
- Collect specimens following protocol-specific requirements, including timed draws, fasting samples, and special handling needs.
- Label, process, centrifuge, aliquot, and store specimens according to study SOPs and lab guidelines.
- Maintain specimen integrity by following strict chain-of-custody and temperature-controlled storage procedures.
- Greet and prepare participants, verify identity, review visit requirements, and ensure informed comfort during the collection process.
- Monitor participants for adverse reactions and report issues to clinical staff immediately.
- Accurately document all collections in source documents, electronic data capture systems (EDC), and laboratory logs.
- Ensure all procedures comply with GCP, HIPAA, and study regulatory requirements.
- Track sample inventory and assist with shipments to central or specialty laboratories.
- Follow all laboratory safety policies, universal precautions, and biospecimen handling standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized phlebotomy and processing area.
- Participate in quality control activities, equipment checks, and protocol training sessions.
- Work closely with research coordinators, clinical staff, and laboratory team members to ensure seamless visit flow and accurate protocol execution.
- Communicate proactively about scheduling needs, participant considerations, or protocol deviations.
Qualifications
- Previous Phlebotomy Experience- would be great if they have previous experience with processing samples as well.
Skills
- Processing Samples preferred.
Additional Requirements
- Mon-Fri schedule with very flexible hours, will accept part-time as well.
