Registered Nurse - Oncology Clinic
Location: Valencia, CA (91355)
Schedule: Full-Time, Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Compensation: $45 - $52 per hour, commensurate with experience. Higher compensation may be available for candidates with specific Oncology experience.
Role Summary
We are seeking a highly compassionate and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to serve as the primary clinic nurse, working closely with a team of two providers. This role is essential for delivering high-quality, continuous patient care, encompassing clinical assessment, treatment administration, patient education, and case management support. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced outpatient setting and is committed to promoting exceptional patient continuity of care.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Care & Coordination:
- Serve as the primary nurse for all assigned patients, facilitating their care throughout the treatment continuum.
- Assess and interview patients regarding their current health status and medical history during consults and follow-up visits.
- Collect, document, and record comprehensive nursing assessments and interventions.
- Room approximately 22 consult/follow-up patients per day, in addition to managing treatment visits.
- Perform venipuncture, access implanted ports, and maintain central line catheter devices.
- Provider Support & Reporting:
- Provide brief, focused reports to providers after rooming patients, highlighting standout issues and critical data points.
- Review and report the results of health status assessments, physical examinations, pertinent laboratory and radiographic data, and psychosocial assessments to the supervising provider.
- Assist with in-house Radiation Oncology treatments as required.
- Treatment Administration:
- Prepare and administer various therapies, including medications and blood products, under the direction of a physician, ensuring the “five rights” (right medication/blood product, dosage/amount, route, time, and technique).
- Facilitate appropriate dose modifications by assessing the patient, reviewing labs, consulting protocols, calculating doses, and consulting with the physician regarding adjustments, problems, and symptom management.
- Assure pre-authorization and appropriate consent forms are obtained prior to administering therapies where applicable.
- Patient Advocacy & Education:
- Function in a "case management" capacity, actively helping patients navigate and manage their care throughout the treatment process.
- Assess patient/family needs and provide crucial health education, teaching, and instructional material.
- Provide essential psychosocial support to patients and their families.
- Maintain strict patient confidentiality in accordance with all governing standards.
Required Qualifications
- License: Active and unrestricted California Registered Nurse (RN) License is mandatory.
- Experience:
- 2+ years of clinical Registered Nurse experience is strongly preferred.
- Outpatient clinic experience is highly desired; candidates with recent, relevant experience in Emergency Room (ER) or Med/Surg will also be considered.
- Note: Experience solely in SNF, Home Health (HH), or Hospice is not applicable for this role.
- Attributes: Demonstrated ability to be highly compassionate and empathetic in patient interactions.
