Job Summary
The Staff Pharmacist is responsible for verifying and processing compounded prescriptions in accordance with federal and state regulations governing 503A compounding pharmacies. This role ensures prescription accuracy, clinical appropriateness, and compliance with USP standards while maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and verify prescription orders for completeness, accuracy, and clinical appropriateness prior to compounding.
- Confirm compliance with applicable regulations including USP <795>, <797>, <800>, and state board of pharmacy requirements.
- Check patient-specific prescriptions for proper calculations, concentrations, and beyond-use dating.
- Communicate directly with prescribers and clinical staff to clarify or resolve prescription discrepancies.
- Oversee and verify final product labeling, documentation, and packaging prior to dispensing.
- Maintain accurate records of order verification and ensure traceability of each compounded preparation.
- Collaborate with pharmacy technicians and compounding personnel to ensure workflow efficiency and adherence to safety and sterility standards.
- Support quality assurance processes, including incident reporting, batch review, and internal audits.
- Participate in continuing education and maintain professional licensure in good standing.
Qualifications
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy required.
- Active pharmacist license in [State], free from disciplinary actions.
- Minimum of 1–3 years of pharmacy experience; sterile and/or non-sterile compounding experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of USP compounding standards, pharmacy law, and best practices for order verification.
- Detail-oriented with excellent analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, regulated environment.
