Position Summary
As a Lab Clerk, you will play a vital role in supporting laboratory operations through accurate specimen processing,
documentation management, and excellent customer service. This position requires strong attention to detail, effective
communication skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment. You’ll collaborate closely
with clinical staff, providers, and reference laboratories to ensure timely and accurate specimen handling and data
integrity within the laboratory information systems.
Responsibilities:
- Specimen Processing: Receive, verify patient identification, sort, prepare, and distribute blood, urine, and other biological specimens according to established protocols. Operate laboratory equipment (centrifuges, copiers, etc.) and utilize the EHR and LIS systems to label, centrifuge, aliquot, and load specimens onto lab equipment.
- Phone and Customer Service: Respond to incoming calls, provide ordering information for lab tests, assist with specimen requirements, and handle inquiries from providers and reference laboratories. Communicate results and resolve issues efficiently to support smooth laboratory operations.
- Documentation and Resource Management: Complete and maintain lab-related documentation, including incident forms, reference lab requests, and issue reports. Ensure that external test results are received, scanned into the EHR, and routed to appropriate providers.
- Equipment Maintenance: Record temperatures, defrost freezers, clean lab equipment, and ensure all instruments are properly maintained and functioning.
- Quality Improvement and Compliance: Participate in quality and process improvement initiatives, complete mandatory learning requirements, and adhere to all laboratory and organizational policies.
Requirements:
- Experience: Previous clinical laboratory or phlebotomy experience required.
- Education: High school diploma or GED (or equivalent) required.
Schedule/Shift:
- Monday – Friday, 1:30 PM – 10:00 PM
Pay:
- $20 - $22 an hour ($24 - $30 Once Converted to Permanent Employee)
