Job Summary
Our client is seeking a dedicated Veterinary Technician to join their dynamic team. This is an entry-level position primarily involving work under direct supervision. The role is focused on supporting Veterinarians, Study Directors, and clients by facilitating various animal health activities in medicine, surgery, and drug therapy. The Veterinary Services team is responsible for treating all on-site ill and injured animals and overseeing the preventive medicine program as determined by the Attending Veterinarian.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care for medical cases within the facility under the guidance of staff veterinarians and senior technicians.
- Perform basic diagnostics and screening tests including body weights, Tb testing, malarial screens, and other tests as requested.
- Conduct routine animal procedures, including handling and restraint of rodents and nonhuman primates, sedation, medication delivery, and surgical preparation.
- Occasionally perform procedures on unsedated animals and provide restraint as needed.
- Perform post-exposure protocols on nonhuman primates and routine quality control on paperwork.
- Maintain and order supplies, and handle controlled substances for planned procedures.
- Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of veterinary equipment and facilities.
Qualifications
- Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) or Vet Assisting preferred.
- 6-12 months of experience working with animals preferred, ideally in a research or veterinary clinic setting.
- Basic to advanced computer skills and strong communication skills.
- Ability to understand and act on complex instructions, both verbal and written.
- Proficient in dose calculations using algebraic equations.
- Basic animal handling and medication administration skills.
Additional Requirements
- Wearing appropriate PPE, such as N-95 respirators, face masks, safety glasses, and other protective gear as per policies.
- Ability to handle and dispose of biological and chemical substances according to protocols.
- Availability to work overtime, weekends, and evenings as needed.
