Job Summary
Our client is seeking a Laboratory Technician responsible for the daily performance of clinical laboratory procedures and the operation of the clinical laboratory. The primary goal is to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of lab operations while maintaining high standards of patient confidentiality and customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Work the schedule posted, with occasional necessity to work after hours to complete requested testing.
- Access specimens and prepare forms correctly for all ordered tests.
- Perform daily start-up and maintenance procedures for laboratory equipment and document them accurately.
- Prepare reagents and run controls and standards for each test as required.
- Perform quality control testing and notify laboratory manager if control problems cannot be resolved.
- Monitor equipment and room temperatures daily.
- Perform proficiency testing and report results to lab supervisor.
- Perform all requested tests in a timely manner, giving priority to “STATS.”
- Assist in supply orders by conducting weekly inventory of the assigned laboratory area.
- Assist clinic staff and physicians with patient test results and technical questions.
- Check patient results to assure quality reporting.
- Acknowledge and notify physicians of laboratory "panic" values as per protocol.
- Document all accomplished work and obtained results correctly.
- Participate in educational activities and maintain patient confidentiality.
- Act as a team player, collaborating and communicating clearly with all team members.
- Enhance communication by consistently displaying excellent customer service skills.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of medical terminology and English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Skill in using computer programs and managing time effectively.
- Ability to solve complex problems and implement solutions.
- Ability to listen and follow oral and written instruction clearly and concisely.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with team members, physicians, vendors, clients, and external agencies.
- Ability to accession specimens.
Experience
- Strong background in biological science.
- Competent microscopy skills.
Education
- Medical laboratory technician: 1 year required.
- High school diploma or GED required.
