Substance Use Disorder Director
Location: Los Angeles, CA
Schedule: Full-Time, Monday–Friday (8am–5pm)
Salary: $115,000 – $135,000 annually (DOE)
Reports To: Chief Operating Officer
About the Opportunity
Medix is partnering with a leading community health organization in Los Angeles to hire an experienced Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Director. This leadership role offers the chance to shape strategy, strengthen clinical programs, and expand access to recovery services in underserved communities.
The Role
The SUD Director provides strategic direction and operational oversight for all Substance Use Disorder programs. The ideal candidate will ensure regulatory compliance, drive program innovation, and lead teams delivering culturally sensitive, evidence-based care. Key Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Clinical Oversight

Recruit, mentor, and retain top clinical and administrative staff.

Lead program design, implementation, and evaluation to maximize effectiveness.

Oversee curricula for domestic violence, anger management, parenting, and substance use education.

Integrate SUD-MAT services with behavioral health, primary care, women’s health, prenatal care, dental, and homeless outreach services.

Monitor outcomes and implement data-driven improvements.
Compliance, Reporting & Accreditation

Ensure compliance with DHCS, Medi-Cal, SAPC, and other regulatory requirements.

Serve as the Clinical SUD Program Director for mandated approvals and reporting.

Lead audits, licensing renewals, and grant monitoring visits.

Maintain KPI dashboards, QA systems, and performance improvement plans.
Client Care Management

Oversee individualized treatment plans for SUD clients.

Ensure compliance with standards and documentation requirements.

Support positive client outcomes through quality oversight.
Community Engagement & Partnerships

Represent the organization in coalitions, boards, and policy forums.

Strengthen referral networks with housing, mental health, and public health partners.

Advocate for harm reduction and stigma reduction.
Program Planning & Budgeting

Oversee budgets, billing, and financial planning in collaboration with finance/grants teams.

Identify and secure new funding opportunities.

Lead expansion of SUD and specialty services across sites.
Qualifications
Must-Have:
-
Certified Substance Abuse & Addiction Counselor.

5+ years of leadership experience in SUD or community-based recovery programs.

Experience directing or coordinating outpatient drug and alcohol treatment programs.

Knowledge of harm reduction, dual-diagnosis treatment, and community health models.

Familiarity with Los Angeles County’s Alcohol & Drug Plan.

Understanding of recovery processes, including 12-step programs.
Preferred:

Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Strong leadership, communication, and team-building skills.
