Join our client's team as a Veterinary Technician and play a crucial role in facilitating and supporting the work and research of veterinarians, study directors, and clients. As a Veterinary Technician, you will be responsible for a wide range of animal health activities, including medicine, surgery, and drug therapy. Responsibilities / Job Duties
- Provide nursing care for all medical cases within the facility under the guidance of the staff veterinarians and senior level technicians.
- Perform basic diagnostics and screening tests such as body weights, BCS, Tb testing, malarial screens, hemoccult testing, urine dipstick analysis, and blood collection.
- Perform routine and basic animal procedures, including handling of NHP, sedation, medication delivery, vital signs assessment, and surgical preparation.
- Occasionally perform procedures on unsedated animals and provide restraint when necessary.
- Perform post-exposure protocols on NHP.
- Conduct basic cleaning and preparatory procedures, such as cleaning medical instruments and surgical suites.
- Calculate medication doses and potentially order controlled substances from the pharmacy.
- Perform routine QC on paperwork and handle computer entries and data retrieval.
- Share inventory and ordering responsibilities for departmental supplies.
- Engage in routine cleaning and maintenance of equipment within the department.
Minimum Education and Experience Qualification Requirements
Education
- BA/BS, Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT), or completion of a 2-year Veterinary Technician program preferred.
- An equivalent combination of experience may substitute for education requirements.
Qualifications
- 6-12 months of basic animal handling and/or basic medical/veterinary experience is required.
- ALAT certification pursuit expected.
- California State Veterinary Technician License (LVT) preferred.
- Basic to advanced computer skills.
- General reading, writing, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to accurately calculate doses using algebraic equations.
- Continual Good Laboratory Practice training and training on applicable procedures and SOPs required.
- Basic animal handling and medication administration skills are required.
