- Senior Coder (Surgical)- $30.00 (5 years minimum)
Job Description:
Hiring for the premier healthcare network in the Central Florida area, which offers highly sought out medical services and facilities across all specialties! They pride themselves with focusing on excellence and community care.
The organization is currently hiring for a variety of different inpatient-surgical coding needs on both a Full-Time (40 hours) and Part-Time (20 hours) employment basis. The employment structure is flexible (contract or contract-to-hire) depending on what you would be seeking out of a new opportunity as well! It can be an ideal position if you are looking for supplemental income to full-time employment.
The need for these positions is due to backlog work, special projects, and growth with the new fiscal year.
Responsibilities/ Job Duties:
- Accurately reviews medical records and assigns ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes for diagnoses, procedures, supplies, and medications.

Ensures documentation meets federal “Physician at Teaching Hospital” requirements and reports any provider documentation concerns to the Senior Coder.

Works with specialty teams and the Central Business Office to support financial goals, resolve insurance denials, and maximize reimbursement.

Communicates clearly with physicians, office staff, and coding team members while maintaining patient confidentiality and coding accuracy standards.

Participates in required meetings and adheres to organizational policies, procedures, and attendance expectations.
Specialties (we are hiring for):
- General Surgery
- Head and Neck Oncology: Ideally someone from a University/big hospital setting- no small
- Neurosurgery: Need to have skull & spine
- Ortho: Need to have Poly trauma, Arthoscopies, hand surgery, spinal surgery, fracture care, and complexity cases; Poly and Hand are the biggest importance; Ideally from a trauma center
- Plastics: Need experience with cancer/breast Reconstruction
- Pulmonary: All lung surgeries Critical Care, minor bronchitis
- Rheumatology/Infusions: Need to know this inside and out; no surgery- office based and need to understand infusion billing
- Surgery Oncology: Liver is a must- pancreas is an added bonus but primarily doing liver (Whipple procedures)
- rauma Level 1: Everything you can imagine- they will be coding for this; Burns for ex. Intense providers that they will be coding for, they expect the best of the best.
- Urology: Complex surgeries
- Vascular: Complex surgeries, strokes, trauma
- Colorectal Surgery: Backup for Gastroenterology;Cancer-Related Surgeries, Total Proctocolectomy with Ileal Pouch-Anal Anastomosis (IPAA), Low Anterior Resection (LAR), Abdominoperineal Resection (APR), IBD Surgeries, etc.
Nice to have: Ideal candidate profile ("tell me about your top performer"): Candidates from large PB groups and hospitals.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- Certified Medical Coder - Will accept CPC, CCS, CIC, CCA, etc.
- Only one not accepted is RHIT & RHIA
- Strong background and experience in aligned specialty (see above - many options)
- Able to work independently (remotely) and meet productivity expectations
Schedule/ Shift:
- Full time coders: Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm EST. There is a flex start time between 6:00am-8:00am EST once they are up and running and approved
- Part time coders: Sunday-Saturday 6am-11:00pm EST. They have to log on for at minimum 2 hours per shift for metrics and be efficient. There is a minimum of 20 hours per week they must meet but how they get there (what days / hours) are up to them as long as it's within the approved timeframe!
