Job Summary
The surgical procedure scheduler for our client plays an important role in providing support to patients undergoing surgical procedures. This position requires patience and compassion as most surgical patients may experience anxiety or pain. Multi-tasking and attention to detail are crucial in this role, alongside being a team player who can work well with staff from multiple facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Call patients within 24-48 hours of being notified about a required surgery or procedure.
- Coordinate insurance benefits with the selected facility.
- Review and evaluate the patient's medical history for further workup, including testing and clearances.
- Discuss with the patient the most suitable facility based on insurance restrictions and medical history.
- Advise the patient on necessary steps after the surgery date is set and stress the importance of timeliness.
- Provide the patient with prescriptions for testing if needed and mail all relevant instructions related to the facility.
- Fax necessary documents to the patient's primary doctor and/or cardiologist.
- Fill out appropriate paperwork or enter details into the facility's platform. Call to schedule if required by the facility.
- Forward patient information to insurance authorization if not previously completed.
- Track incoming tests and clearances, ensuring timely communication with patients, facilities, or PMDs if there are delays.
- Coordinate with staff at various facilities to ensure all paperwork is in order and received, including necessary notes and reports.
- Answer patient questions throughout the pre-op process.
- Reschedule patients who need to change their date after all arrangements have been made.
- Perform precertification as required, depending on the division being scheduled for.
- Maintain detailed records of tasks completed to ensure smooth workflow continuation.
- Perform faxing, scanning, and copying as needed, and help colleagues when not busy.
- Maintain a neat and clean workspace.
