Job Summary

Our client is seeking a Research Assistant to support genomic surveillance efforts within their Infectious Disease team. This onsite, lab-based role involves hands-on molecular biology work, including DNA extraction and library preparation for both short- and long-read sequencing using Illumina and Oxford Nanopore platforms. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, collaborative, and comfortable working in a fast-paced laboratory environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform high-quality DNA extractions from a variety of biological samples.
• Prepare sequencing libraries for Illumina and Oxford Nanopore platforms.
• Maintain precise sample tracking, labeling, and documentation.
• Support general laboratory maintenance and compliance with safety protocols.
• Collaborate closely with fellow team members to support ongoing research projects.
• Troubleshoot basic issues in the extraction and prep workflow.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field.
• Hands-on experience with DNA extraction and sequencing library preparation.
• Strong attention to detail and a high standard for sample tracking and documentation.
• Familiarity with next-generation sequencing (NGS) platforms, especially Illumina and/or Oxford Nanopore.
• Prior experience working in a research or clinical lab setting preferred.
• Ability to adapt quickly and contribute within a collaborative team environment preferred.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field.

Additional Requirements

• This is a 12-week contract position with strong potential for extension or long-term placement, based on performance and project needs.
• The selected candidate must be able to start ASAP.
