Job description

During their shift our Nurses can expect to take continuous calls - up to 60+ in a given shift with some follow up phone calls as needed. They will also be responsible for documenting these patients' interactions in the EMR system, EPIC. Within this department there are five other triage nurses. They will sit out of the Cancer center which has a small call room dedicated to this function.

Nurses providing triage services help support the entirety of the Puget Sound region. Being specific to oncology, nurses can expect to make assessments regarding symptoms stemming from medications, chemotherapy treatment and infusion treatments. Many inquiries stem from questions regarding what medications to take and when (oncology patients tend to be prescribed quite a few medications while undergoing treatments). Nurses stepping into this position will have to collaborate with multiple providers across all of Multicare's Cancer Institute as they assess patient needs and escalate accordingly. While there is structured training associated with this position there will be a number of instances that a nurse will have to use their best judgment and there isn't necessarily a workflow outline - Triage can be very situational.
