Job description

Requirements:

  • National Surgical Tech Certification and VA State License
  • BLS Required
  • Minimum 1 year of Surgical Tech experience, preferably in an Orthopedic setting
  • Surgery Center experience highly preferred

Overview of Responsibilities:

Preoperative Duties:

  • Don surgical attire, PPE, and perform surgical scrub.
  • Gather and check necessary supplies, equipment, and medications.
  • Set up sterile back table and Mayo stand with instruments.
  • Perform initial instrument, sharps, and sponge counts with circulator.
  • Assist with gowning, gloving, draping, and sterile field establishment.
  • Participate in time-out and site verification.
  • Secure sterile accessories and tubing.

Intraoperative Duties:

  • Prepare and anticipate additional instruments and supplies.
  • Pass instruments and supplies to the surgeon.
  • Measure and pass medications, hemostatic agents, and solutions.
  • Assist with retractor holding, sponging, suctioning, and electrocautery.
  • Cut suture material and coordinate robotic arms/instruments.
  • Maintain sterile technique and perform additional counts.
  • Prepare dressings, immobilization devices, and handle specimens.
  • Clean instruments for sterilization and assist with room turnover.
  • Participate in debriefing and quality improvement.

Additional Duties:

  • Review patient chart, verify surgery, and assist with patient transfer.
  • Monitor patient comfort, assist with anesthesia and positioning.
  • Apply grounding pad, tourniquets, and assist with skin prep.
  • Perform counts, record keeping, and specimen care.
  • Secure dressings, assist with post-op transport, and urinary catheterization.
  • Update surgeon preferences and ensure accurate records.

Other Information:

  • Pay: 40.00/Hr - 52.00/Hr (based on experience)
  • Schedule: Begin at 6:30 AM, could work 4 10s or 5 8s, shift will vary (will know schedule 6 weeks in advance)
  • Will report to OR manager and Nursing Director
