Surgical Technologist

Salem, OR 97302

Schedule: 4x10 shifts (Mon-Fri, no weekends/holidays)

Start Date: November 17, 2024

Compensation:

  • Pay Rate: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour

Position Overview:

We are seeking an energetic and compassionate Surgical Technologist to join our fast-paced team. This role focuses on ophthalmic and oculoplastic surgical procedures in a non-emergent setting. Key Responsibilities:

  • Surgical Support: Scrub for ophthalmic and oculoplastic procedures, primarily cataracts and reconstructive surgeries
  • Instrument Management: Prepare, sterilize, and handle surgical instruments according to surgeon preferences
  • Operating Room Turnover: Perform "pit crew" style room turnovers between cases to maintain efficiency
  • Surgeon Assistance: Anticipate surgeon needs during procedures while monitoring fine equipment, sutures, and needles
  • Non-Scrub Tasks: Process instruments, handle decontamination, and manage operating room setup

Typical Schedule & Case Load:

  • Shift: 4x10s with variable hours (start at 6:30 AM, first case at 7:30 AM)
  • No weekends, holidays, or on-call shifts (paid holidays included)
  • Weekly Case Load: ~80-100 surgeries split between two Surgical Techs (8-14 procedures/day for plastics; up to 28 cataract cases/day)
  • Fridays: Dedicated to slower-paced oculoplastic surgeries

Required Qualifications:

  • Education & Certification:
    • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or eligible through grandfathering (Oregon ST work before 2017)
    • OR completion of a US Military Surgical Technologist Training Program
    • 16 hours of continuing education every two years (if required)
  • Skills:
    • Experience with ophthalmic procedures highly preferred
    • Ability to handle fine surgical instruments, sutures, and needles with precision
    • Knowledge of ophthalmic equipment is a plus
    • Strong moral and ethical character references
