Job Posting: Surgical Scheduling Coordinator

Position Summary:
We are seeking a Surgical Scheduling Coordinator to support our surgical department by developing and managing pre- and post-surgical education materials, coordinating surgical scheduling workflows, and ensuring seamless communication between patients, clinical staff, and operating room personnel. This role requires a proactive approach to scheduling, process improvement, and patient education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with department leadership to create and enhance patient education materials for pre- and post-surgical care.
- Develop and refine surgical scheduling workflows, identifying necessary resources and escalation processes.
- Maintain and actively manage the operating room (OR) schedule for all faculty, ensuring accuracy in case length, equipment, and surgical requirements.
- Serve as a liaison between the department and the OR, participating in daily huddles and addressing any scheduling concerns.
- Schedule surgical cases in accordance with clinical and time allocation guidelines using EPIC and IDX systems.
- Coordinate patient care by meeting with patients and families, providing pre-surgical education, and ensuring all required documentation and consents are completed and scanned into EPIC.
- Analyze surgical scheduling data, propose improvements, and implement process changes for efficiency.
- Train clinical staff, faculty, and surgical scheduling teams on best practices and updated workflows.
- Work closely with nursing staff and OR teams to optimize operating room utilization and resolve scheduling conflicts.
- Ensure accurate patient demographics and clinical data for scheduled cases and communicate necessary information to Patient Registration.
- Conduct daily data validity audits to maintain accuracy and compliance with department standards.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Associate's degree highly preferred.
- 3-5 years of surgical scheduling experience required, neurology experience a plus.
- Strong working knowledge of EPIC and IDX systems.
- Excellent customer service, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to analyze and interpret clinical scheduling requirements for efficient case placement.
- Experience training staff on scheduling workflows and insurance procedures.

Compensation: $21-28 hourly depending on experience
Hours: Mon-Fri 8am-4:30pm
Location: Baltimore, MD 21201
Start Date: ASAP
